God Vs Tendulkar

God vs Tendulkar
“I was 16 when I missed my first test hundred”. This is how Sachin was quoted saying in one of his very old advertisement on an energy drink called “Boost.
Since then up until now, Sachin has scored that whopping figure 99 times as on date in international cricket. May be the way he has played the game with utmost dedication and passion has helped him to scale greater heights which can never ever be replicated by any other cricketer and as an Indian I feel proud about it. Inspite of being in the game for more than a couple of decades he hardly lets his achievements get into his head whereas nowadays you are seeing players like Sreesanth, who sits in the bench in most of the matches, behaving boorishly in the field with total disrespect not only to the seniors in the game but also to the game as a whole.
When you think of such extra ordinary qualities that this special player called Sachin has imbibed, we cannot but admire this great player in every possible way. He is an icon and youngsters, by following him,  not only will learn the art of batting but also that rare quality called modesty.
Ok, with all these said and done I am really amazed by the way Sahin is being prefixed by many nowadays as “God of Cricket”. Of course Sachin has all the great qualities in him which makes him special when you compare him with anybody. But does he have the qualities of God is something we should think prudently before offering him this name. Sachin is a mere human and so he is independent of certain qualities that can be attributed to God alone.
Infact, I am ready to oppugn this prefix given to him which looks nothing short of rubbish and unmeaningful. If you call him as God of Cricket then he must be good in all aspects. Perhaps in addition to being a “Tendulkar”in batting, he needs to be a “Warne”or “Hadlee” in his bowling, a “Jonty Rhodes” in his fielding, a “Healy” in his wicket keeping, an Ïmran Khan” in his captaincy and even a “Sobers” in his versatility. To cut these things short, he should be a master of everything. He just is too good in his batting and so that does make him a great in only one of the departments of the game. So, he really is not a God of Cricket.
So, does that make him a “God of batting”? If he is indeed a God of batting then whenever his teammates get into trouble he should have come to their rescue and fed them with victories. But, unfortunately, our so called “God of Cricket” does not score his centuries in crucial matches. Infact, his centuries are usually confined to less important games and very rarely he gets a big score in the finals. Not to say the least, he has not won more than a couple of test matches on his own. Infact, test cricket is the real cricket.
I appeal to all Sachin fans not to get angry. All I am saying is that think before conferring someone with a title. Just think if a person is critical and is fighting for life, what do the doctors tell his friends or relatives. They will say “God is Great” Is it not? What does it mean? It means that they had done their best and only God could save the patient’s life. So, God is the only person we can rely on in times of disasters. But,what about Sachin? Can we bank on him on situations when India gets into trouble in crucial matches? I don’t think so. Most of the times it is players like Dravid, Laxman, Yuvraj, Sourav etc had come to our rescue time and time again in such crunch situations. When Draupadi in Mahabharata uttered the name of “Govinda” with utmost faith in him, we have read that Krishna came to help her in times of distress. So, you expect God to be like that. God is one whom you can trust in times of adversities and Sachin is just a human and so don’t ever mistake him to be a God.
God is superior to humans and never comes under anyone’s pressure. But, Sachin has struggled with his batting when he was given the post of Captaincy unable to cope up with the responsibility. Then how can you call him God? Sachin is not the God and he is just an ordinary human. He may be the greatest batsman every to have played the game in some people’s eyes but calling him a Gpd is preposterous. No quality of God is seen in Sachin and So I declare him that he is an ordinary human and not a God.
Having said that, the type of admiration that I have for Sachin and his game make me think that this game will be nothing after the retirement of Sachin. I feel after W.G.Grace, Sachin is the most important person in cricket.
“Sachin is not a God but a great  human being and an awesome cricketer”.
